Red Hill Quarry Development Proposal
What is Hanson proposing to do at the Red Hill quarry site?
Hanson proposes to continue to develop the Red Hill Quarry pit to the north and west of the current pit (see map below). This will increase the area available for hard rock extraction and enable long-term continuation of quarry operations. Hanson also proposes to extend the area of the existing stockpile and dispatch area and relocate and/or upgrade existing crusher/s and/or add additional crusher/s to the existing processing plant. The development will increase the quarry disturbance footprint by around 80ha over the expected 100-year life of the proposal.
What assessment will be undertaken of Hanson?s development proposal?
The proposal was referred to the WA Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in February 2007. The EPA determined the proposal required assessment under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and set the level of assessment and Public Environmental Review (PER). The PER document will be formally released by the EPA for an 8 week public comment period. You can read more about the environmental approval process by visiting the EPA website.Hanson has engaged Strategen (environmental consultants) to assist in coordinating the environmental investigations and public consultation, and to prepare the PER document.
PER public review period: 23 June - 18 August 2008
The 8 week public review period commenced on Monday 23 June 2008 and closes Monday 18 August 2008. During this period, members of the public are invited to write a submission to provide information, express opinions and put forward suggested course of action relating to Hanson's proposal. All submissions must be received by the EPA by Monday 18 August 2008. Information on how to write a submission and where to send submissions is found inside the front cover of the PER.Where to get copies of the PER
